This architecturally designed three-storey Bronte residence combines relaxed coastal living with carefully considered detailing and craftsmanship. Extensive structural works, a central double-height void and strong connections to the surrounding landscape create a light-filled family home that makes the most of its beachside setting.

Project Details
Bronte House involved the construction of a high-end three-storey family residence on a challenging site, requiring extensive excavation, contiguous piling and detailed structural coordination from the early stages of the build. Designed by Michael Cumming Architect in collaboration with Edward Birch, the home centres around a dramatic double-height void that brings natural light deep into the interior while connecting the different levels of the house. A sculptural steel staircase forms a key architectural feature, winding through the centre of the home while occupying minimal space within the floor plan.
The open-plan kitchen, dining and living areas connect seamlessly with the landscaped rear garden and pool, creating a strong relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces. Natural ventilation and carefully positioned openings take advantage of Bronte’s coastal breezes, while the material palette combines sandstone, weatherboard cladding, timber and natural stone to create a refined yet relaxed coastal aesthetic.
Bespoke detailing is carried throughout the home, from the natural stone kitchen island and custom joinery through to the exposed structural elements and carefully resolved finishes. The result is a highly considered family home that balances architectural complexity with warmth, functionality and the relaxed character of its Bronte location.
