East Killara CLT House is a complete new-build family residence designed by KLAD Studio Architecture & Interiors around the principles of cross-generational living, generous spatial volume and natural light.

The ground floor is organised around a large open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, complemented by a separate rumpus room, study and guest suite with its own ensuite and walk-in robe. This arrangement allows different generations of the family to live comfortably within the same home while maintaining a sense of privacy and independence.

At the centre of the residence, a double-height void connects the two levels and gives the home a strong sense of height and openness. Skylights and extensive glazing introduce natural light deep into the floor plan, while the living spaces open onto multiple terraces, a central courtyard and established landscaped areas.

The upper level accommodates the primary bedroom suite and additional family bedrooms, creating a quieter private zone above the main living areas while remaining visually connected through the central void.

Cross Laminated Timber construction forms an important part of the home’s design and reflects AJP’s continued focus on mass timber construction within high-end residential architecture.

Externally, architectural timber cladding is combined with dark metal cladding, rendered finishes, aluminium glazing and textured paving to create a refined contemporary material palette. Operable screens and external blinds provide privacy and solar control while adding depth to the façade.

The result is a generous and highly considered new family home that brings multiple generations together while balancing openness, privacy and functionality, with CLT construction supporting a contemporary approach to residential design.
